Most of Kodaikanal's best-known spots sit within a short reach of the town centre, which makes a stay near the lake genuinely convenient. Here's a plain list of the main ones with rough distances, fees and the season each is best in. Fees and timings change often, so treat these as a guide and confirm locally.
The town's heart
- Kodaikanal Lake — about 2 km from the centre. Free to walk; boating roughly ₹50–₹100. Cycle, stroll or take a pedal boat; best March to June.
- Coaker's Walk — about 0.5 km. Entry around ₹10. A cliff-side path with valley views; on clear mornings you may catch the Brocken spectre. Best in summer and early winter.
- Bryant Park — about 0.3 km. Around ₹30 for adults, ₹15 for children. A tidy botanical garden, at its best during the May flower show.
Viewpoints and rock formations
- Pillar Rocks — about 8 km. Entry around ₹5. Giant granite pillars, often wrapped in mist. Best November to March.
- Dolphin's Nose — about 9 km. Free. A short trek to a dramatic cliffside view; go in clear weather.
- Guna Cave (Devil's Kitchen) — about 8 km. Entry around ₹10. Deep ravines and dense forest; view from the safe fenced areas only.
Forest, lakes and falls
- Pine Forest — about 8 km. Free, open through the day. Tall pines and misty paths, good year-round.
- Berijam Lake — about 21 km. Free, but a forest permit is required and daily numbers are limited. Quiet and pristine; October to February.
- Silver Cascade Falls — about 8 km. Free. A roadside stop on the way in or out, strongest July to September.
- Vattakanal Falls — about 9 km. Free. A quieter alternative for a peaceful stop.
Pick three or four, not ten. Kodaikanal rewards time spent, not boxes ticked.
Beat the crowds
Visit the popular spots early in the morning or near sunset — quieter paths, softer light, and far better photos.
Because most of these are within a short drive of the centre, choosing a central stay means less time in the car and more time actually looking at the view.
