Your Kodaikanal love story: a slow 3-day couples' guide

Two mugs of hot chocolate beside a bonfire on a cool, misty hill evening

Kodaikanal is a good place to slow down together. Crisp air, long views, and days with nothing urgent on them. Here's an unhurried three-day guide that trades tour-bus schedules for quiet moments, with a warm, central place to come back to each evening.

Before you go

Pack warm layers, comfortable shoes and a little patience. Traffic can crawl and morning fog can hide a view, and that's fine. The point of a hill trip is the slower rhythm, so let it lead.

Day one — the lake and golden hour

Settle in first, then walk down to Kodaikanal Lake. Skip the motorboats and take a pedal boat at your own pace, then follow the boulevard around the water hand in hand, stopping for tea or a bit of local chocolate. Head to Coaker's Walk about an hour before sunset, when the valley below turns gold. Keep the evening simple with a warm dinner and an early night.

Day two — forest and falls

Drive out to the Pine Forest early, before the crowds, and walk the quiet avenues among tall trees. From there it's a short trip to Bear Shola Falls, small and lush, with a spot to sit and share a packed lunch. Spend the evening resting — a slow one is part of the plan.

The souvenir you keep isn't from a shop. It's the quiet you found together.

Day three — a sunrise and a slow goodbye

Set an early alarm for Pillar Rocks at sunrise, when the first light hits the granite and the mist drifts through the valley. On the way back, the Berijam Lake road offers layer after layer of blue hills; you don't need to drive all the way to enjoy the best of it. Stop by the Kurinji Andavar Temple for a calm, elevated view before you pack up.

Evenings back at the stay

The best part of a couples' trip here is often the quiet end of the day. Warm rooms, a slow breakfast, and an evening by the bonfire in the courtyard as the cold settles in. A central, calm base means less time on the road and more time together.

Ask about a quiet evening

Let us know it's a couples' trip and we can help arrange the small things — a quieter room, a bonfire evening, or an early breakfast before a sunrise drive.
